Winning Doesn’t Mean Success and Losing Doesn’t Mean Failure
Don’t be scared of failure — learn from it and try again! Winning and losing are two sides of the same coin; what matters is the journey.
Don’t be scared of failure — learn from it and try again! This should be the motto of life.
Winning and losing are two sides of the same coin. You can’t have one without the other: for someone to win, someone has to lose. Winning does not define success, and losing does not mean failure. When you start something new or play a game, you learn a lot. There is plenty to explore, so much to learn and a lot to grasp. On this journey you go through tough times, hurdles and obstacles — and along the way you gain the courage to endure tough times, learn the tricks to cross hurdles and find solutions to obstacles. That is what you must take from every journey.
As Paul William “Bear” Bryant put it, “Losing doesn’t make me want to quit. It makes me want to fight that much harder.” The same applies to each one of us, whether it is a game or a real-life situation. Losing does not mean failure; it means you need to work harder than before. Whatever the outcome — victory or defeat — it is essential to value the journey. Success is not just winning; it is giving your 100% to whatever you are doing. Success is surpassing your own limits. Winning should always be secondary to achieving your personal goals. Make it a basic principle of life to compete against yourself, overcome your own fears and work harder every time to fulfil your dreams.
How you deal with the journey, and what you bring home from it, is what matters most. As they say, success is a story of failures. How can you create something new or think outside the box if you are scared of failing? Be ready to accept failures as part of the journey and always have the courage to go the extra mile to achieve your goals.
Instead of treating a loss as a failure, treat it as a trial or an experiment that gives you a different kind of learning. When you win, you get busy celebrating. When you lose, your entire focus shifts to correcting your mistakes and learning the skills to win. So stop measuring success and failure by the yardstick of winning or losing. Go for your dreams, give your best and enjoy whatever you do — every single day!
